Invitation

On behalf of the Scientific and Organizing Committee we are honored to invite you to the 2nd Scientific Conference “Climate change in the geological past” which will be held on November 24-25, 2015 at Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute in Warsaw.

The first edition of the conference was held in 2011. In response to numerous inquiries about the resumption of the conference on this subject, we feel obliged to organize its next edition.

We would like to invite experienced specialists, PhD candidates and students at the beginning of their scientific careers , as well as people interested in climate research, that also include methods of preventing the adverse effects of climate change in utilitarian aspect.

The issues

Today, a wide public discussion and demand for knowledge about climate changes, increases the importance of research on paleoclimate, especially works that will help us to understand the mechanisms of these changes in the geological past.

Presenting paleoclimate changes in the context of multi-faceted geological research allows for a new approach to these issues. It also helps to recognize many links between seemingly distant research fields with observed climate changes today, their modeling and predicting.

The two-days (Nov. 24-25 ) of the 2nd Conference "Climate changes in the geological past" will be an opportunity to present the new results from a different paleoclimate researches in a broad time context - from the distant past to the present day.

A wide range of scientific studies include paleoclimatic reconstructions, they are both fundamental and applied research, among them : palaeobotany with palynology, vertebrate and invertebrate paleontology, the study of loess, paleolimnology, isotope geology, paleomagnetic studies, testing of the CO2 and methane content in the atmosphere, radiometric dating of rocks, the analysis of Milankovitch cycles, glacial-interglacial cycles, geotectonics, palaeogeography, climatostratigraphy, cyclostratygraphy, sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, mineralogy and geochemistry, the occurrence of rock materials related to climatic zones, climate change and groundwater chemistry, registration and modeling of climatic event, etc.

Conference languages will be Polish, although the English presentations will be also accepted.

The most important scientific results of the Conference will be published in a form of post-conference volume in Geological Quarterly (IF 2013 = 0.865; 5-Year IF = 0.914).

Workshop of the NECLIME Working Group

For the participants of this year's Climatic Conference we have special proposition - the  participation in the International NECLIME Working Group workshops that will held directly after the Conference on November 26-27, 2015.

NECLIME is an open research network that include palaeobotanists, paleozoologists and geologists from Europe and Asia. The  NECLIME group focuses on the observations of Neogene climate changes recorded in the terrestrial sediments. Paleoenvironmental reconstructions, palaeovegetation, changes in fauna assemblages and the mutual links between them help to determine the evolution of the past climate in the last 20 million years.

This year's workshop will be focused on the taxonomy of Neogene palynomorphs and will have the form of round-table discussions. Participants will present their research results in the form a short presentation. Scheduled is also the general discussion, as well as planning the further cooperation within the NECLIME.

We invite all people interested in climate changes recorded in the Cenozoic sediments to participate in the Workshop.

Fee for the Workshop is 50 euros (incl. workshop materials, coffee breaks, lunches and workshop dinner).

Please arrange payment by bank transfer using the following details:

Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute, 4, Rakowiecka  Str, PL-00-975 Warsaw,

account number 73 1560 0013 2366 2335 1965 0011

In the transfer title please provide the participant's name and the annotation NECLIME workshops.

For the Polish participants the equivalent in Polish zlotys (200 PLN) should be paid using account number 52 1560 0013 2366 2335 1965 0001.

In the transfer title please provide the participant's name and the annotation NECLIME workshops.

Detailed information about NECLIME workshops will be available in a separate communication.
