The 9th Engineering Geology Challenges Conference in Poland (9th WPGI) is organized by the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PIG-PIB), established on May 7, 1919, by resolution of the Legislative Sejm of the Republic of Poland. It is composed of its headquarters in Warsaw and seven regional units (Gdańsk, Kielce, Kraków, Lublin, Sosnowiec, Szczecin, and Wrocław).
The Institute conducts comprehensive research on the country's geological structure, aiming to practically apply the accumulated geological knowledge to the national economy and sustainable development.
In addition to scientific activities in all fields of geology, the Institute also fulfills the tasks of the Polish Geological Survey, including the identification and monitoring of geological hazards.
